Tae Kwon Do has
become more apart of Mr. Ruth than just about
anything else has. From TKD he gets his
fascination for ancient and modern Asian
cultures, his love for all martial arts, as
well as the history behind them. Another part
of the Asian culture that has shown up in Mr.
Ruth's life is the dragon. Independent,
energetic, humorous, capable, and idealistic
are just some of the characteristics that he
was told he shared with the ancient creature.
Because of that, the dragon has become a huge
part of his life and even now has centered his
new school around it. Mr. Ruth has proudly
accepted the spirit of the dragon into himself
and his school and hopes to spread its
character to his new students.
Mr.
Ruth's martial arts history started early for
him. About the age of five his parents decided
to enroll him in a martial arts class to try
to get me to open up, not to be so shy. As a
young boy, and even sometimes now he remains a
quiet person that keeps to himself a lot. Most
likely that's what his parents were wanting to
change. About the age of ten he earned the
rank of first degree black belt, the goal that
was set for him when he started. After that he
got into other sports and took his eyes off of
TKD for a while. Then about the age of
seventeen he started back. Since then he has
been to many places, done many things, and
earned many awards.
At
the age of nineteen he opened his own school
under the head school that he was attending.
for the next nine months he welcomed many
people into that school and tried to instill
in them what I had been taught over the years.
In 2002 Mr. Ruth was inducted into the ITU's
World Wide Martial Arts Hall of Fame For
Assistant Instructor of the Year, honored by
The Senate of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for
his leadership skills and the tournament team
he was a member of and helped coach and train,
as well as becoming a member of the Kentucky
National Karate Team.
In 2003 Mr.
Ruth was promoted to the rank for 2nd dan
black belt by the International Tae Kwon Do
Union under master Tom Merritt.
On February
4, 2005 Mr. Ruth opened the doors of East
Tennessee Tae Kwon Do to the public. Sharing
the building of Jana's School of Gymnastics in
Morristown Tennessee, he plans on making this
new Tae Kwon Do school a staple in the
community as well as the premier Tae Kwon Do
school in the area.
